Building on the success of the earlier initiative, this continuation programme was able to support many more companies and provide additional benefits including the secondment of innovation facilitators to SMEs to support innovation project implementation.
The SME Innovation Support Programme stimulated the development and growth of SMEs in the London Objective 2 areas through improvements in product, process, technology and business practices.
Innovation is a creative process and is applicable to every facet of business activity. London’s knowledge base can provide the expertise to help business improve their performance, but the majority of businesses find it difficult to tap into the wide range of expertise in its world-class universities and researchers. Working with Universities and partners across London, the Programme raised awareness of the benefits of innovation in every business operation and demonstrated the valuable role that the Universities and Colleges of London can play in working with SMEs of all sizes.
